The impact of the European Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD) on European hedge funds is widely discussed, however the effect these regulations will have on US managers is often glossed over. Just as Dodd-Frank has extra-territorial reach outside the US, so too does AIFMD when it comes to US managers who wish to either manage or market their funds inside the EU. Given that AIFMD comes into force July 2013, US managers must consider the implications of AIFMD.
